🚄 Indian Railways Updates
Major Train Blocks & Service Disruptions
Indian Railways is conducting major train blocks across various zones for maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. Some key disruptions include:
- Eastern Railway (Malda Division): Track maintenance work affecting train schedules until 17 July 2025.
- South Eastern Railway (Chakradharpur Division): Developmental works leading to train cancellations between 19 June – 24 June 2025.
- Western Railway (Surat Station): Redevelopment work impacting train operations until 31 October 2025.
Electrification Milestone
Indian Railways has achieved 94% electrification of its broad gauge network, with over 40,000 km completed in the last decade. This marks a significant step toward sustainability and efficiency.
Tatkal Ticket Booking Gets Aadhaar Authentication
Starting 1 July 2025, Aadhaar authentication will be mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets—both online and at counters. This move aims to curb misuse and ensure genuine passengers get priority access.

To manage summer rush and festival travel, Indian Railways has introduced special trains on key routes:
- Anand Vihar Terminal – Jaynagar / Rajgir / Sitamarhi

Hydrogen-Powered Trains in Central Europe
Stadler has unveiled the RS ZERO, a dual hydrogen and battery-powered train, offering a sustainable solution for non-electrified routes in Central Europe.
France’s Mega Rail Project
SYSTRA has been selected to lead the Bordeaux–Toulouse and Bordeaux–Dax high-speed line, the largest rail infrastructure project in France’s history.
AI Meets Rail Safety in Chicago
Sensonic and the Chicago Transit Authority are piloting fiber optic sensing to detect rail intrusions in real time—boosting safety and rapid response.
UK Finalizes £500 Million Rail Contract
The UK government has finalized a £500 million rail contract to support British Steel, ensuring the supply of 337,000 metric tons of rail track over five years.
Indian Railways Statistics
- Electrification Progress: Indian Railways has electrified 99% of its broad gauge network, covering 47,000 km in the last 11 years.
- Carbon Emission Reduction: The shift from road to rail has saved 143 million tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to planting 121 crore trees.
- Fuel Savings: Electrification has led to a 2,857 crore litre reduction in diesel consumption, saving ₹2 lakh crore in fuel costs.
- Freight Growth: Cargo transport increased from 1,055 million tons in 2013-14 to 1,617 million tons in 2024-25, making Indian Railways the second-largest cargo carrier globally.
